Free Food Harlem hosts nationally renown criminal justice reformist Dr Topeka K. Sam for a talk followed by a three course meal. Topeka has spent the last decade creating The Ladies of Hope Ministries, which works to end the poverty crisis and the incarceration of women and girls. She’s worked on multiple pieces of state and federal legislation aimed specifically at the rights of women in prison, including prohibiting the long standing practice of maintaining handcuff restraints on women in labor while incarcerated. In addition to her nonprofit work, she’s a co-founder of a social benefit bank aimed at providing banking services to those caught in the criminal Justice system often discriminated against by national banks.
The talk will conclude with a 3 course meal provided by Free Food Harlem.
